Members of the Global Association of International Sports Federations (GAISF) have approved the dissolution of the organisation at the GAISF Extraordinary General Assembly (EGA), held today at the SwissTech Convention Centre, Lausanne.

The dissolution of GAISF was recommended by the GAISF Council and Members voted in favour of dissolution by 70 votes in favour and 22 votes against. The vote was conducted via Lumi’s secure and voting system under the supervision of an independent Swiss notary.

A second EGA took place immediately after the first to vote on several items related to the process of dissolving GAISF. These included the appointment of Ernst & Young as the liquidator, the principles of distribution of assets, liabilities and activities, and the introduction of a new article in the GAISF Statutes to allow for a virtual or hybrid GA to be called in the future. All of these proposals were approved.

In the meantime, the restructuring of SportAccord, which will take on many of the activities of GAISF, will commence, including a revised governance structure with the Association of IOC Recognised International Sport Federations (ARISF) and Alliance of Independent Recognised Members of Sports (AIMS) becoming members alongside the Association of Summer Olympic International Federations (ASOIF) and Association of International Olympic Winter Sports Federations (AIOWF).
