It is all our mission to place athletes at the heart of our sporting and Olympic movement. The IOC Athletes Commission (AC) serves as a link between the athletes and the IOC. The Olympic athletes elected its new members of the athlete’s commission, Emma Terho, (Finland Ice Hockey) as its new Chair and Seung Min Ryu, (Republic of Korea, Table Tennis) as the new Vice Chair.

The IOC Executive Board also put forward Pau Gasol (Spain, basketball), Maja Włoszczowska (Poland, cycling), Federica Pellegrini (Italy, swimming) and Yuki Ota (Japan, fencing) for election by the IOC Session as IOC members. The four athletes were elected as members of the IOC AC for a term of eight years.

Outgoing AC Chair Kirsty Coventry, has been a true leader of the athletes pushing some important initiatives through for example, the Athletes’ Rights and Responsibility declaration and congratulations to Ms. Coventry as she has been elected as an individual IOC member by the IOC session.

Danka Bartekova, played an important role in the delivery of the International Athlete’s Forum and the development of the athletes 365 platform. As all athletes regardless in the Olympic programme or not, benefitted from his important commission. AIMS would also like to thank Tony Estanguet, James Tomkins OAM and Stefan Holm. All of them played an important part in the development and implementation of the Olympic Agenda 2020 and recently Olympic Agenda 2020+5.

Congratulations to the new IOC Athletes Commission.
