Each year on june 20th, the world celebrates the courage, the strength and resilience and for us, in the world of sport, the talent and inspiration of people who have had no choice, who have been forced to flee their home countries to escape hate, violence, conflict or persecution.
This year’s World Refugee Day focuses on solidarity and solutions for the displaced people and last year, nearly 120 million people worldwide were forced to leave their homes.
We must continue to stand together where sport gives hope. We must advocate inclusion, support, emphasizing a world where refugees are welcomed, and barriers are broken down.
AIMS President Stephan Fox stated, “We are all looking forward to Paris 2024 to all the outstanding athletes from the world, the 36 athletes which make up the IOC Refugee Olympic Team who send a powerful message of hope, inclusion and the power of sport.”
