After two days of fistball in a new surrounding in Cape Town the positions on the leader board are taken.
The first day we saw five clear 3-0 matches – as expected the newcomers from Australia and South Africa had no chance against the World Cup veterans from Pfungstadt (GER) and Mercês (BRA)- surprisingly Mercês was not able to keep up with the German title holder and lost 0-3 as well. The nailbiter of Day 1 was clearly the fight of South Melbourne Fistball Club against the Archbishops of Banterbury. The Local heroes started well with a 2:1 set-lead, but couldn’t finish the game with the same concentration and lost in the end 2-3 to the Australian rivals.
The second day started with the game for the 3rd place between the South Melbourne Fistball Club the the Archbishops of Banterbury. The young host team could not repeat the good performance from the preliminary round game against the same opponent and lost in four strait sets.
All that hoped the final between the favorite TSV Pfungstadt and Club Mercês would be a tighter match as the first day and would bring some suspense was proven wrong. Only in sets one and four Club Mercês were near a surprise and had a set point in the first set. The TSV Pfunstadt showed why they are the best club team in the world and showed no mercy with the opponent from Brazil. They won all sets and were the logical winner of the IF 2016 Men’s Worldcup in Cape Town.
