The Paralympic Games Paris 2024 Close with a Grand Finale

The Paralympic Games Paris 2024 concluded in spectacular fashion on Sunday, 8 September 2024, after 11 days of remarkable sporting achievements. Athletes gathered at the Stade de France for a final celebration, where the Flame was extinguished and the event culminated with an energetic electronic music concert.

Paris 2024 marked France’s first Summer Paralympic Games, inviting the world to celebrate at the Stade de France. Over 2.5 million tickets were sold, with fans witnessing exceptional performances, such as Zakia Khudadadi’s victory for the Refugee Team in Para taekwondo, and China’s Jiang Yuyan becoming the most decorated athlete with seven golds. French athletes excelled at home, winning 19 gold medals and 75 in total, with standout performances from Alexis Hanquinquant, Marie Patouillet, and Alexandre Léauté.

The Closing Ceremony began with a performance of “Vivre pour le Meilleur” and honored the 169 delegations and 4,400 athletes who competed. Six newly elected IPC Athletes’ Council members were recognized, and the 15,000 volunteers received a heartfelt tribute. The event also featured a demonstration of breaking, a nod to its inclusion in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

The handover to Los Angeles 2028 followed, accompanied by the emotional extinguishing of the Flame by French Paralympic champions. The Games ended with a massive electronic music celebration, transforming the Stade de France into a vibrant dance floor, bringing the historic summer to a joyous close.
