IOC Welcomes President-elect Kirsty Coventry at Olympic House

Just two weeks after her landmark victory, President-elect Kirsty Coventry received an exuberant welcome at Olympic House in Lausanne. As she stepped into the building, a thunderous round of applause erupted from IOC staff, and IOC President Thomas Bach warmly presented her with a bouquet of flowers. The occasion was immortalized in a spirited group photo taken on the iconic staircase, alongside IOC Director General Christophe De Kepper and the dedicated team.

In an address marked by heartfelt gratitude, Coventry reflected on the moment as one she would forever treasure. “I never dreamed as a nine-year-old that I’d have the opportunity to give back to this Movement and inspire others to dream big,” she shared. Her leadership pledge was powered by her campaign’s Ubuntu philosophy—”I am because we are”—a principle she declared would fuel her transformative vision over the next eight years.

A two-time Olympic swimming champion from Zimbabwe, Coventry broke new ground by becoming the first female President in the history of the International Olympic Committee. Her election as the 10th IOC President at the 144th IOC Session in Costa Navarino, Greece, on 20 March 2025 set the stage for an exciting era. As she gears up for the official handover on Olympic Day, 23 June, Coventry is already making key appearances, including an upcoming IOC Executive Board meeting on 9 April.

Adding to the enthusiasm, the AIMS Family has extended hearty congratulations to President-elect Coventry. They expressed excitement for the continued successful collaboration, drawing on the strong legacy established during President Bach’s tenure. With renewed energy and a shared commitment to excellence, everyone looks forward to a dynamic future under Coventry’s leadership
