The Alliance of Independent Recognised Members of Sport proudly reaffirms its mission as one of the four umbrella organisations recognised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), serving as the official entry point for developing International Federations on their pathway toward full IOC recognition.
Established in 2009 and granted full IOC recognition in 2016, AIMS now stands alongside ASOIF, AIOWF, and ARISF as a trusted partner within the Olympic family. Today, AIMS represents more than 20 International Federations, united by a shared commitment to good governance, transparency, athlete safeguarding, inclusivity, and the universal values of Olympism.
“AIMS is not just a platform for federations, but a movement of solidarity, opportunity, and hope,” said Panagiotis Theodoropoulos, Vice President of AIMS and President of Ju-Jitsu International Federation. “We are proud to serve as the bridge that supports sports on their journey to IOC recognition, while promoting education, equality, inclusion, and social change through sport.”
Within the Olympic Movement, AIMS works to ensure that its members uphold the highest standards of governance, integrity, and fair play. This includes compliance with anti-doping and safeguarding frameworks in close cooperation with the ITA and WADA, alongside advancing youth empowerment, gender equality, and inclusion at every level of sport. AIMS also advocates for traditional, indigenous, and emerging sports, ensuring they have a voice and a place in the international arena.
Central to AIMS’s mission is the belief that real change begins at the grassroots. By supporting youth programmes, community initiatives, and school partnerships, AIMS helps create opportunities for every child—regardless of gender, ability, or background. From urban centres to remote villages, AIMS members are breaking down barriers and building safe spaces where young people can learn, grow, and dream. This is not only about nurturing future champions but also about shaping responsible citizens, instilling values such as teamwork, respect, resilience, and leadership.
Equality and inclusion remain at the heart of AIMS. Sport, it affirms, is a right, not a privilege. Equal opportunities for boys and girls, pathways for athletes with disabilities, and programmes empowering underrepresented groups form a core part of its work. Through partnerships with Special Olympics, Para sport, and gender-inclusive policies, AIMS continues to create a sporting environment where everyone belongs.
As sport evolves, AIMS remains a guardian of good governance and a gateway to Olympic legitimacy. By supporting its members, championing transparency, and upholding the values of Olympism, it ensures that the next generation of federations can thrive on the global stage.
From grassroots fields to the Olympic podium, AIMS is building bridges—connecting communities, empowering athletes, and demonstrating that sport is one of the most powerful tools for unity, equality, and peace.
