The Federation Internationale de Savate holds its world championships in Assaut and Combat in alternating years. This year being a Combat year, many Assaut fighters took the opportunity to gather in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, for an open event.
The Bulgaria Open Mondial is always fun. Participants include athletes who are regular members of their national squad, along with others who are keen club level competitors. The participants stay in a nice hotel, next to an aqua park. Before the Open, everyone can participate in seminars to improve their skills.
For the Open, the sports centre in Plovdiv saw athletes from across the globe. Over one hundred and twenty fighters from 25 countries enter the ring, including athletes from many European countries, Canada, Japan, India and the Seychelles.
Officials were numerous and friendly. The technical level of the fights was very good, with a great atmosphere and fair play. Bulgarian television made a film about our sport and many photographers captured all the good, hard and funny moments, which you can find on Facebook.
