Boxing has officially been included in the sports programme for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games (LA28), a decision approved on Thursday during the second day of the 144th Session of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). This historic move followed a proposal from the IOC Executive Board, supported by the recommendation of the Olympic Programme Commission. Additionally, it comes after the provisional recognition of World Boxing as the International Federation responsible for governing the sport within the Olympic Movement.
World Boxing’s recognition by the IOC represents a major milestone. World Boxing has been officially recognized by the Alliance of Independent Recognised Members of Sport (AIMS), becoming the 10th sport to achieve such recognition. Furthermore, it is the fourth sport to make the transition from AIMS into the Olympic Programme.
AIMS President Stephan Fox was present at the IOC Session to support and congratulate World Boxing, marking this significant achievement. Among those celebrating this momentous occasion were Boris van der Vorst, President of World Boxing, and Gennadiy Golovkin, Chair of the World Boxing Olympic Commission.
This inclusion of boxing in LA28 reaffirms the sport’s rich tradition within the Olympic Games.
