AIMS President joins celebrations at historic WAKO World Cup in Bangkok

The bustling capital of Thailand proudly hosted the inaugural WAKO World Cup, a landmark event in the global expansion of kickboxing. Held at the renowned Thai-Japan Stadium (Bangkok Youth Center), the competition drew 51 teams representing 41 nations, showcasing elite talent across both tatami and ring disciplines.

The opening ceremony was presided over by Mr. Pai Leeke, President of the Kickboxing Association of Thailand (KAT), with Mr. Roy Baker, President of the World Association of Kickboxing Organizations (WAKO), in attendance. Miss Tira Buyani Kittikorn, KAT General Secretary, extended a heartfelt welcome to all participating countries on behalf of the Thai host nation.

The event concluded with a special appearance by Mr. Stephan Fox, President of the Alliance of Independent Recognized Members of Sport (AIMS), who served as Guest of Honor. Mr. Fox congratulated WAKO and KAT for delivering an exceptional tournament and commended their shared commitment to the global development of kickboxing.

WAKO, a former full member and now an associate member of AIMS, continues to reach new milestones following its official recognition by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in 2021—an achievement that underscores the organization’s growing influence on the international stage.
