The Alliance of Independent Recognised Members of Sport (AIMS) introduced its Good Governance Project during the 2024 General Assembly at the Olympic House. Led by Dr. Julie Gabriel, AIMS Council Member and President of FISav, in cooperation with the CSCF Sport Integrity Group, this initiative is designed to enhance governance standards, transparency, and ethical practices across AIMS’ member federations. The project reflects AIMS’ commitment to fostering integrity and accountability within international sports.
The Good Governance Project provides federations with essential resources, including targeted training programs, policy frameworks, and monitoring tools that address specific governance needs. Through customized governance training, federation leaders will acquire the skills necessary for ethical decision-making, transparent administration, and financial accountability. These programs equip leaders to meet high standards and to foster sustainable, credible governance. In addition to training, the project supports federations in policy development, offering guidance for establishing codes of conduct, conflict-of-interest protocols, and transparent governance policies.
To ensure continued adherence, the Good Governance Project introduces monitoring mechanisms that allow federations to assess their compliance with established guidelines, helping to identify areas for improvement and fostering ongoing development. These tools will help federations mitigate risks associated with mismanagement and strengthen their organizational credibility.
Commenting on the initiative, AIMS President Stephan Fox stated, “The Good Governance Project is more than an initiative—it’s a commitment to the principles that sustain fair and credible sports administration. By establishing these governance standards and offering federations the support they need to meet them, we’re creating a sports community where integrity and transparency are not just goals but expectations. I am confident that this project will have a transformative impact, helping our member federations excel in ethical leadership and setting a new standard for sports governance worldwide”.
Dr. Julie Gabriel, who spearheads this project, added, “Working in close cooperation with the CSCF Sport Integrity Group, we’re bringing a new level of governance support to our federations. This project empowers AIMS members to achieve excellence in governance and aligns their operations with global best practices, ultimately strengthening their influence and credibility in the sports community”.
