AIMS Elects New Council for 2025–2029

The Alliance of Independent Recognised Members of Sport (AIMS), the IOC-recognised umbrella organisation representing international federations committed to the Olympic values, has successfully concluded its General Assembly and elections for the 2025–2029 term at its headquarters, the Maison du Sport International in Lausanne.

AIMS President Stephan Fox expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the outgoing Council members for their years of dedication and contribution, with special recognition to long-serving members Gerhard Zimmermann (General Secretary), Kei Izawa (Treasurer), and Mike Thomas (Council Member) for their outstanding service and unwavering commitment to the AIMS family.

President Fox emphasised that:

“AIMS is, and will always remain, a family standing together for the benefit of sport and the athletes we serve.”

The newly elected AIMS Council for the 2025–2029 term is as follows:

President: Stephan Fox, GER

First Vice President: Panagiotis Theodoropoulos, GRE

Second Vice President: Julie Gabriel, GBR

General Secretary: Sabine Shanahan, GER

Treasurer: Wilko Vriesman, NED

Director: Leif Meitilberg, DEN

Director: Claudio Schermi, ITA

Director: Robert Keller, USA

Director: Helen Lundberg, SWE

Director: Seing-Kon Choi, KOR

The Council also appointed Michal Buchel, SUI as an additional member.

Newly elected General Secretary Sabine Shanahan expressed her gratitude and vision for the term ahead, stating:

“It is an honour to serve the AIMS family. I am deeply committed to working hand in hand with all our members and partners to continue strengthening the voice of sport, fostering inclusion, equality, and integrity within the Olympic Movement.”

The elections mark a new chapter for AIMS, reinforcing its mission to promote good governance, unity, and cooperation across all recognised sports and federations under the Olympic umbrella.

AIMS remains a trusted partner of the International Olympic Committee, upholding the shared values of integrity, inclusion, and equality in sport, and continuing to build bridges across the global sporting community.
