AIMS Extraordinary Meeting welcomes World Boxing into the Alliance

February 25, 2025 (Lausanne, Switzerland) – The Alliance of Independent Recognised Members of Sport (AIMS) convened virtually for an Extraordinary Assembly to discuss several key developments. A notable highlight was the successful admission of World Boxing as a member of the Alliance.

The application from World Boxing was primarily reviewed in depth by the SportAccord Executive Committee. Following a comprehensive evaluation by the SportAccord Membership Commission, which assessed the organization’s compliance with all required criteria, a favorable report was submitted. This recommendation was subsequently approved and affirmed by the AIMS Council and its members, marking a significant milestone for World Boxing as it officially joins the prestigious AIMS family.

In addition to the World Boxing membership decision, the Assembly covered several important topics:

  • AIMS Office in China: The potential establishment of a dedicated AIMS office in China was discussed. This initiative aims to support the keen interest of members who have not yet established a presence in the People’s Republic of China, fostering the development of national federations. The next step would be to establish an office in Africa with the vision to operate continental offices of support through the umbrella body.
  • Collaborative Initiatives: Updates were provided on ongoing collaborative efforts among AIMS, WADA, ITA, and the AIMS development process in Africa, emphasizing the commitment to advancing equality, inclusion, and non-discrimination in sports.
  • UTS Cooperation: This year the flagship UTS festival will be held in Malaysia 8-11 October in Kuala Lumpur, an opportunity for AIMS members to activate and engage their National Federations in the region or work with UTS support to establish a federation.

AIMS remains committed to working closely with its member federations to promote these objectives and uphold the values of the Olympic movement. The next meeting will take place during the SportAccord Convention.
